I am Director in the Indirect Tax Department. I joined HW Fisher in 1995 from HM Customs & Excise (now HMRC) and have significant experience in many sectors including property, not for profit and international trade.
The key focus of my role is VAT, which consists of both advisory work and compliance. I assist clients, partners and staff with all aspects of VAT, either on specific transactions or more widely in reviewing the activities of an organisation from a VAT perspective, with the aim of maximising tax efficiency. VAT can be very complex, particularly concerning the land and property and the not-for-profit sectors, and these are areas of expertise.
My clients are from all areas of the firm, from large companies and trade unions to small charities and individuals. For some, I provide a complete package of compliance services, including VAT Returns, EC Sales Lists etc, and for others only strategic advice on high value projects.
A career highlight was playing a key role in the largest single transaction that HW Fisher has ever been involved with, the acquisition of a very significant petrol retailing business and its subsequent reorganisation. I advised on and coordinated all VAT aspects of this transaction ensuring that it could be completed on schedule.
