Muneeza Baig works with a range of clients across a variety of sectors, from grant making, membership, independent schools, arts, disability and religious organisations. Joining HW Fisher as a trainee in 2001, she became a Partner earlier this year.
What is your role at HW Fisher?
I am a Partner in the Charities and Not for Profit team.
What area do you currently specialise in? Tell us what your work involves.
I specialise in Charities and Not for Profit organisations and work with my clients to deliver practical advice and accounting solutions for their organisations so that they can focus on their charitable activities and making a difference. This can range from a number of different accounting solutions such as audit, independent examinations, preparation of accounts and bookkeeping.
How did you begin your career, and what led you to your current area of specialism?
I started at HW Fisher as an ACA Trainee in the main audit team. Within my first year of my training contract, I quickly gravitated towards the audits for charities and not for profit organisations. I really enjoyed working for this sector and the diverse charity sectors that our clients were in. I haven’t looked back since.
What has been the greatest lesson you have learned working with clients through Covid-19?
The greatest lesson I have learned from charities is the resilience and ability to adapt to the pandemic. I’ve been inspired by the innovative ways I’ve seen my clients raise funds by taking events virtual or running socially distanced events and how they’ve adapted their charitable services to still be able to reach their beneficiaries.
What is one piece of advice you would give to charity clients at the moment?
Charities will need to ensure that they keep on adapting and innovating as we come out of the pandemic. There is still uncertainty as the lockdown is eased slowly and we come back to a new normal, whatever that will be.
What are your goals for your area of the business over the next 12 months?
To continue delivering the great service and practical advice to all our clients whether big or small, if this is the first year we have acted for them or if they have been with us for a number of years. To help our clients navigate the ever changing landscape.
Tell us something about you that might surprise people?
I think people are always surprised to hear that I have worked for HW Fisher since leaving University all those years ago. It just seems like yesterday that I was joining Fishers as an ACA Trainee. The reason behind this is simple. It is a great place to work with supportive colleagues who excel in their fields.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Don’t stop learning and growing as a person, as knowledge is power.
