I’ve been working at HWFisher for the past five months as an ACCA trainee, and I can hardly believe how quickly the time has flown by. It honestly feels like just five minutes, which I think speaks to how much I enjoy being here and how busy the workdays are.
As an apprentice, we’re given the flexibility to start our day between 8:30 and 9:30 am, which is a great perk. It allows me to avoid any travel stress, knowing I’ll always be on time no matter what. I usually opt for an 8:45 am start, giving me a bit of time to check emails and organize my tasks for the day before diving in.
In my time here, the learning opportunities have been endless. I’ve been exposed to a variety of tasks already, and just recently, we wrapped up tax return season. While it was a busy period, I really enjoyed it. I had the chance to collaborate with both the Business Solutions department and the Sports Group, which gave me a wide range of client exposure. Given my athletic background, working with sports-related clients has been especially enjoyable.
My day-to-day tasks vary. I help prepare accounts, tax returns, and VAT returns, and I also spend time discussing projects with managers, attending meetings, and corresponding with clients. I typically take lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 pm and enjoy spending that time with colleagues in the office hub. It’s a great space equipped with seating, a pool table, dartboard, and other fun distractions. Having a place to unwind for an hour and take my mind off work is so refreshing, and it’s great to be able to chat with colleagues outside of our desks.
After lunch, I usually get back to tackling my to-do list. Most days, I also get a few emails about urgent tasks that managers need help with, so I prioritize those.
Before I know it, the day is over, and I’m heading home around 5:30 pm. It’s surprising how quickly the time flies when you’re busy and enjoying the work you’re doing!
